lolnano contest–about damn time, right?

November 25th, 2007 by Ψ*Ψ

It’s been a while since we asked for submissions for the lolnano contest.  We said we’d judge them and pick the winners.  (We also said we’d do that in…September?)  Wellllll…we’re lazier than we thought we were, and there were a lot of super-awesome entries.  So we wouldn’t have been able to decide anyway.

We’re gonna make YOU vote! (voting is at the bottom of this post. Voting ends next Sunday!)

The winner gets… who knows? Pride? A box of goodies? A box of NANOgoodies?!?! There’s no telling what we’ll do, cause we haven’t decided on anything yet!

With that in mind, here they are (in no particular order):

i can has steroids:

i can has flaxseed oils:

i can fone homz:

i can plz be grignard:

i can has chzburgr:

I’m so glad I didn’t submit mine. These are awesome. Mine really, really sucked. It would have been embarrassing.

I didn’t even try to come up with one. The only decent sense of humor behind CBC belongs to Excimer; fortunately, his is good enough to make up for my deficiency.

I shall save you with a new product in the Chem Blog Store. Since my shit is losing the vote, I figured I’d sell it.

You can be cute without being silly. Anthracene plus benzyne gives trypticene. 9,9- Bianthracene to locked rotor bitrypticene that HyperChem assigns 34.899 kcal/mole overall. FeCl3/MeNO2 oxidation to ring couple giving 25.407 kcal/mole! Do you like long rigid strings of forced conjugation? Alkyl, polyoxypropylene or polyoxyethylene, etc. chains on the anthracene for (liquid crystal) solubility. Flank a central benzene with two fused thiophenes rather than use anthracene (from commercial 1,2,4,5 benzenetetracarboxylic acid, pyromellitic acid).

10,10-Dibromo-9,9-bianthracene gives bridgehead alpha,omega-dibromoditrypticene polymerized by molten sodium or whatnot. Monobromo monomer for endcapping oligomers. Consider constrained conjugated pi pretties like this then
this. If the wings are thiophenes with sulfurs pointing out you’ve got a lusty (super)conducting rigidily conjugated three-bladed pi system that loves to ordered array upon gold.

The polybarrelene core is also interesting,

“Truth is a three-edged sword: your side, their side, and the truth”. Ambassador Kosh, Babylon 5. Uncle Al just forged Kosh’s nanoblade – and it will fluoresce like a Jedi light saber. I think some people are just allergic to awareness.

Easier and prettier than staffanes, way stiffer than ladderanes… and you can thread cyclodextrins on them then snigger.

so… very late, but i just made this connection.

has anyone else noticed the similarities between the “i can has cheezburgr” lolnano, and weight watcher’s “hungry” mascot?

http://www.playbacklondon.co.uk/images/news/news-weight-watchers.jpg

has anyone ever seen them at the same place at the same time?
